How it works
Search a Director Without Knowing the Company
You do not need to know the company first. The Companies House officer search can find matching officers by personal name. After you select a result, the officer appointments endpoint can return the companies associated with that officer record.
Identify the Correct Match
Compare the officer name and total appointment count, then review the associated companies and appointment history.
Open Appointment History
Choose the officer to see companies, roles, appointment dates, resignation dates and company status returned for that record.
One Person Can Be Linked to Multiple Companies
The officer search result includes an appointment count. Opening a selected officer lets you review the appointment records associated with that officer identifier.
This is useful when you know a director's name but do not know which legal companies they are or were connected with.

Use this when you know the person but not the company. Results lead to that officer's company appointment history.
Search by Company
Use the normal company search when you know the business first and want to inspect the officers attached to that company.
Important: the normal officer search and a director disqualification search are separate Companies House datasets. This function searches officer appointments; it does not infer or claim that a person is disqualified.

Can I find a UK director by name only?
Yes. The Companies House officer search supports a name query and returns matching officer records.
Can two people have the same name?
Yes. Names are not unique. Compare the appointment count and then review the associated companies and appointment history before deciding which officer record is relevant.
Can I see all companies linked to the director?
You can review the company appointments associated with the selected Companies House officer identifier, subject to the public records returned by the API.
Does the search include former appointments?
The appointments response can include current and resigned appointments, allowing the results page to distinguish between them where a resignation date is present.
