Privacy Policy
This policy explains how Check Company UK handles personal information when you use the website, search UK-registered companies or contact us by email.
Last updated: 20 September 20261. About this service
Check Company UK is an independent online service available internationally. It provides selected public information about UK-registered companies.
2. Information processed when you use the website
Company searches
When you submit a company name or company number, the website processes the search value in order to query the Companies House public data service and return the requested company information.
Search values may appear in normal web-server request logs where a request is made through a URL. We do not intentionally build user profiles from search activity.
Technical and security information
Our hosting and server infrastructure may process technical information needed to deliver and secure the website, such as IP address, request time, browser or user-agent information, requested URL, response status and security events.
Email enquiries
If you contact us by email, we process the email address and any information you choose to include in your message so that we can read, manage and respond to the enquiry.
3. Companies House data
The service uses selected public Companies House API resources to provide information about UK-registered companies.
Check Company UK is designed to display company-level information rather than build profiles about natural persons. Person-name lookup and natural-person profile services are not provided by the current service.
Some raw public-register responses may contain incidental natural-person information in fields returned by the source. Where this occurs, the application is designed to filter such information from the public report rather than intentionally display or retain it.
For more information about the current source set, see Data Sources.
4. Why we process personal information
Where personal information is processed, we rely on lawful bases appropriate to the activity, including legitimate interests and, where applicable, steps taken at your request.
- Website operation and security: our legitimate interests in operating, protecting and troubleshooting the service.
- Company-search functionality: our legitimate interests in providing an information tool based on public company data and responding to a user's search request.
- Email enquiries: our legitimate interests in communicating with users and responding to enquiries.
- Legal compliance and claims: compliance with applicable legal obligations and the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims where necessary.
5. No advertising or behavioural analytics at launch
At the date of this policy, Check Company UK does not intentionally use Google Analytics, behavioural analytics, advertising pixels, remarketing technology or personalised advertising.
Google Search Console may be used to understand how pages appear in Google Search. Search Console reporting is used for website search-performance and indexing management rather than to build behavioural profiles of individual site visitors.
6. Cookies and similar technologies
The application does not intentionally set advertising or analytics cookies at launch. Hosting or security infrastructure may use strictly necessary technologies required to deliver or protect the website.
7. Who may receive personal information
Where necessary, personal information may be processed by service providers used to operate the website, such as hosting, infrastructure and email providers. It may also be disclosed where required by law or reasonably necessary to protect legal rights.
Companies House acts as the source of public company information and as the destination of company-search API requests made by the website.
We do not sell personal information.
8. International processing
Some technical service providers may process data in other countries. Where a transfer of personal information is subject to data-protection transfer rules, appropriate safeguards are used where required by applicable law.
9. Retention
We do not intentionally create a persistent database of individual visitors or their company searches.
Server and security logs are retained according to operational, security and hosting requirements and are deleted or rotated when no longer reasonably necessary, unless a security incident or legal requirement justifies longer retention.
Email enquiries are kept only for as long as reasonably necessary to manage the correspondence, maintain appropriate records and deal with security, complaints or legal claims.
10. Your data-protection rights
Where applicable data-protection law gives you rights, including under the UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018 or the EU GDPR, those rights may include access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection and data portability, depending on the circumstances and lawful basis.
To exercise a right, email [email protected]. We may ask for information reasonably necessary to verify your identity.
You may also have the right to lodge a complaint with the competent data-protection supervisory authority where applicable.
11. Automated decisions
The website does not use personal information to make solely automated decisions about natural persons that produce legal effects or similarly significant effects.
Any company-level summaries or risk indicators relate to the company record and are provided for informational purposes only.
12. Security
Reasonable technical and organisational measures are used to protect the website and information processed through it. No internet service can guarantee absolute security.
13. Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated when the service, data sources, providers or applicable legal requirements change. The latest version will be published on this page with a revised update date.
